Member Benefits

What are the Benefits of joining the MDCVSA?

Many local soccer leagues have decided to join the Metropolitan D.C.-Virginia Soccer Association (MDCVSA).
The MDCVSA is a member of the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) and the United States Soccer Federation, Inc. (USSF), which is affiliated with FIFA. These administrative bodies work together towards the overall development of soccer within the United States.

USASA is responsible for developing the sport for players over the age of 19.  A competitive and recreational oriented organization, the USASA helps develop adult amateur soccer for both men and women on a national basis. As part of that development, the USASA stages the annual National Cup Finals, which features champions from each of the four U.S. Soccer regions (Regions I, II, III and IV) squaring off in 6 different competitions.  The USASA also organizes national tournaments for Veterans and Co-Ed teams. The USASA, in association with the U.S. Soccer Federation, helps stage the annual Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the oldest annual team tournament in the United States, which dates back to 1914, when the Brooklyn Field Club won the first national title by defeating the Brooklyn Celtics in Pawtucket, R.I.

USSF- As the governing body of soccer in all its forms in the United States, U.S. Soccer has played an integral part in charting the course for the sport in the USA for 100 years. In that time, the Federation’s mission statement has been clear and simple: to make soccer, in all its forms, a preeminent sport in the United States and to continue the development of soccer at all recreational and competitive levels. U.S. Soccer is celebrating its Centennial in 2013, and over the course of a century the sport’s exponential growth has been nothing short of remarkable.

How does the MDCVSA directly benefit it's leagues and their players?

1) Medical "Participant Accident" Insurance

The State Association provides primary medical insurance to uninsured players and it becomes secondary medical insurance, for under insured players, with a $2500 deductible and a $10,000 maximum. The majority of your membership fees goes to providing this important medical coverage.

Affiliated leagues/teams/players have this medical insurance coverage for league play, as well as when they play in ANY other affiliated competitions, anywhere in the United States.

2) General Liability Insurance

To help league managers, the MDCVSA State Association also provides Liability insurance, which covers up to $2 million in damages. This is important piece-of-mind coverage for all leagues and team managers.

This is provided to leagues in the form of a Certificate of "Liability" Insurance, (COI)

3) Directors & Officers Liability Insurance

Our affiliate, USASA, offers FREE D&O Insurance to all of our member leagues

4) The State Association supports one of the best State Referee Programs in the country.

The State Referee Program offers training for new officials (and there's always a shortage of officials), and provides assessments and advancement opportunities for experienced officials. Should you ever have a case of referee abuse or referee assault in your league, you can turn to the MDCVSA to handle the disciplinary hearing for your player -- and any enforcement actions would carry state-wide for that player. In that capacity, the MDCVSA protect the interests of the referees, leagues and players.

5) The State Association actively supports our affiliated tournaments.

We currently sponsor two tournaments, every year.

They are: The Commonwealth Classic and the The Neptune Soccer Classic

The Commonwealth Soccer Classic is held in June or July, at Patriot Park, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  Our biggest tournament of the year is the Neptune Soccer Classic, held in August, at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

6) In addition, we regularly sponsor the MDCVSA State Cup competition and run the in-state qualifying for the USASA National Cups.

For more information on either of these competitions, please go to our  EVENTS tab (this tab is also located on the top our home page)

7) Finally, the State Association works to promote friendship and consistency across its member leagues, players, and teams. Through this impartial governing body, teams and leagues can participate in a legitimate appeals process.
